Not all gold watches link need to show off or even telegraph that they're gold in the first place. More than any other watchmaker, really, A Lange & Söhne is associated with precious metals. For a long time, prior link to the launch of the Odysseus, gold and platinum were pretty much all Lange did, with some notable exceptions, such as the rare link and incredibly collectible steel Lange 1.
This link is interesting for a number of reasons. We often read, or hear stories, link about the quartz crisis and how it almost destroyed the Swiss mechanical watch link industry. In fact, as Reardon notes, Patek was a pioneer in developing quartz technology, pushing the envelope for accuracy. This is the break-out model from Van Bricht, a fledgeling high horology manufacture out of Belgium. Two young watchmakers teamed up to form the brand, and they plan to make 25 examples of these watches.
That would be the 40mm Rolex link Yacht-Master link in Everose gold (the Crown's version of rose gold). Gold is never a bad choice to mark a momentous occasion, but this certainly is not the most obvious choice of watch in Rolex's precious metal stable, which makes it all the link more cool.
